#30 Another Lancaster

Good Morning all, Just to give you notice of my intention to have a go with another kit. This time the Airfix 1/72 Avro Lancaster B.1 (F.E) /B.III.

There are so many Lancs in this SIG that I won't go into the history of the aircraft, I'll just post photos as I go.

What I will say is that Lancasters flew 156.000 sorties and dropped 608.612 tons of bombs between 1942 and 1945, only 35 Lancasters completed 100 successful operations and 3,249 were lost in action. The most successful Lanc completed 139 operations and survived the war to be scrapped in 1947.

The Lancasters normal crew was of 7 airmen,
Pilot................Captain
Flight Engineer
Navigator
Bomb Aimer
Radio Operator
Mid upper gunner
Tail gunner

There are only two airworthy Lancasters left in the world, one in Canada with the Canadian Heritage Museum and the other with the RAFs Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. It is hoped that there may soon be a third airworthy example and that is East Kirbys Just Jane, lets hope this comes to fruision.

Ok guys here we go with the Lancaster build,

Opening the box you have one bag with 5 sprues of plastic and another bag with the clear parts, looking at the plastic it does not appear to be to bad with little flash and good panel lines.

The destructions are the usual booklet type but not with the colour showing the pieces in place


There are two schemes in the kit A is for a Tiger Force aircraft and B for an aircraft of 1943 vintage



The decals seem to be fairly good and well printed


So that is the first update now the work begins

Ok guys it has been a while since the last update basically as I'm losing the will to live with my airbrushes

Anyway that's my problem, on with the show,

The two half's are joined together and the wings are on as well, they all went together very well.



Engine nacelles are built and fitted on all four points



The cavernous bomb bay will be closed as I don't have a bomb load handy for her.


Only problem I am finding with the kit is that the smaller pieces like the gun barrels are well and truly fixed to the sprue, a bit of over kill in my opinion.


So now all I am doing is getting the glass masked (and a lot of it there is), painting the props and getting the turrets painted up and sorted ready for fitting, Hope to put another update on in a couple of days see you all the.

She is starting to look like a Lanc ??????????????????

Primed unusually I'm Ultimate Olive Green primer just because I haven't tried it before and I could.



So we will see what tomorrow brings

Hello again all,

Been a busy weekend in the little man cave, I left her primed in Ultimate Olive Green, Since then I have coated her in X-11 Chrome Silver followed by a clear coat, once dry I sprayed on AKs heavy chipping fluid (Not sure about this stuff), Anyway on with the camo of XF-52 Flat Earth and XF-58 Flat Olive Green. Underside done in XF-1 Flat Black.
Now that it's all dry again a good spray of water on the wings and props followed by a light scrub with a toothbrush and voila I think.

Great work Les! Love the colours for the camo and that chipping has worked a treat!

I must admit I'm not sold on the chipping fluids eithers, I feel the sponge technique gets much better results

The latest update is I am nearly there. After the last coat of Xtracryilics Gloss Varnish was dry it was on with the decals.

Instead of using Ultimate Dark Dirt wash I am going to try Ultimate Light dirt and see what happens, hey it can go totally wrong so we'll see.
