well got started on the hull and the running gear. you can tell the difference between Tamiya and trumpeter, the Tamiya get fell together the trumpeter a little flashy. little fiddly, fit ok but not great, but still it's kind of a cool vehicle.

been banging away at the running gear. the directions call for some fiddly bits before the running gear and the upper hull are joined. well you know I broke some of them off, skipped ahead a few steps and got the big pieces on. and will start filling the smaller pieces tomorrow.

ok we are calling this one built, got the turret cranked out tonight. she will be ready for primer tomorrow, than I can start the camo. frankly i'm a little nervous it really looks hard edge, and there is a lot of small parts to get in the way of tape. I'm using hataka lacquer, and i'm thinking about spraying the camo and trying to put on a hard edge with a brush. any idea's. or are all of you vultures want to watch the train wreck . if you any idea's let me know

Brush is the right idea I think mate!

that's the way i'm leaning. got it primed tonight will shoot the base coat after work tomorrow, and then do some experimenting on the belly Monday to see how the paint performs with a brush

Maybe you could spray the brown colour then brush paint the green and beige to avoid buildup?

Have you considered silly putty or masking putty? Either that or Tamiya's masking tape for curves.

I'm worried about he lighter color covering the darker ones, the paint say's optimized for airbrush.
got the base coat on tonight, first time using hataka paint mixed about 50 50 with leveling thinner. shoot fine, good coverage. tomorrow will spray part of the bottom with the brown, and then brush the edge to see what happens.

I've had mixed luck with that tape, and I don't have any silly putty. I have tried some of the ammo of mig masking goo and did not have very good luck with-it. I think if I had some of Tamiya's sheet tape I could have tried that, so i'll put it on the list and try something new today

finally got around to spraying some brown on the bottom of the hull. on the vertical I used a brush around the edge, while on the horizontal I painted over the entire section with a brush. just hitting the edge seem's to be the way to go. I did brush straight out of the bottle, i'm going to add a couple of drops of leveling thinner when I paint. should be spraying the brown tomorrow, and the green on the following night.

hi all sprayed the flat earth tonight. looks ok, will shoot the green tomorrow. quick thought about the paint. hataka orange line lacquer, i'm curiously optimistic. it's my first time using it, mixes well with gunze leveling thinner, sprays well, dry's fast and the finish looks good, better than any acrylic that I've used and a lot of sets that no else covers. plus 17ml squirty bottles that include a mixing ball. down side kind of smelly, and can be kind of hard to find.

sprayed the green tonight, color's look good, I think the paint tonight was a little to thick or the pressure was to high. got a bit (ok a lot) of overspray. not to worry i'll start brushing in the hard edge tomorrow. this model was painted light color first, followed by the darker colors. i'm thinking maybe I should have painted the darker first in this case. hard edge might have been easier brushing the dark color, I guess we'll find out this weekend

alright fella's went and brushed the hard edge tonight. mixed 7 or 8 drops of paint to 1 drop of mlt. these pictures were taken when the paint was wet, looked at it after a couple of hours and it looks way better. I don't see any brush marks. tomorrow I will airbrush to fill and touch up the camo then we will know if this worked.

all right that did not work . airbrush the center of the camo, got more overspray ty to touch up with a brush. a real catch 22. next try at this will be with tape. fixed it best I could, and gloss coated today, decals tomorrow. . any luck the weathering will cover the brush marks.

been working on the weathering added a wash, some light chipping, and have been trying some ak dust effects, well i'll guess we'll see how that comes out after a matt coat.

all right we are wrapping this one up. did some playing around with the tires, used enamel dust effects on one and pigments on the other I think the pigments are the way to go. dusted the lower part of the model with ak real paint mixed 50-50 with mlt, and then a dull coat with testers and mlt 50-50.
nice kit, somewhat obscure vehicle. screwed up the paint big time, brush and airbrush don't want to seem to play together. it looks ok from a foot away, any closer and it looks pretty bad. missing some detail paint ( waiting for paint). but i'm calling this one complete.
