Italeri Australian Truck 1/24

Hey blokes, thought I'd crack on with another build whilst I wait on a few bits & pieces to be delivered for the McLaren.

I decided on the Italeri Australian Truck, its very similar to the truck my pop used to drive when he carted logs and Ive never built a truck before.


Frame and running gear assembled and sprayed with SMS black


Most of the Western Star trucks have Cummins engines, so decided to spray it in Tamiya LP red, just need to touch up the belts with some rubber black. I had a look at the transmissions online & most are a light blue so I'll probably use Tamiya light blue once the reds dry so I can tape if off.


So far its gone together really well, no fitment issues as yet and being my first Italeri kit, Im pretty impressed.

Looking forward to this! Glad it's going well so far, keep your wits about you with Italeri though, don't be getting complacent, or they will hurt you

not a huge amount done but painted the transmission with Tamiya light blue, hoses and exhaust with SMS aluminium, also sprayed the radiator and fan.
Still deciding whether to dirty up the engine or have it as a new build straight from the production line

Looks ace! I'd go for a very light wash on the engine just to bring out some details rather than looking like it's been to the moon and back.

I definitely don't want it looking like Neil Armstrongs ripped a few skids in it, I might give it a quick once over with the Tamiya panel line and bring the deets out more

Ive decided to do the build as a brand new factory fresh so gave the engine & transmission a light once over with the black Tamiya panel liner, I think it turned out okay, highlights a lot more details

Managed to get a bit more done, its starting to look like a truck now

The seam lines in the fuel tanks and steps ruin the factory chrome on it so once they were puttied up I wrapped them in bare metal foil rather than spraying them with alclad etc, I like how they came up, its not the bright in your face chrome but nice and subtle. I didn't worry about the top seams as they'll be hidden by the body.



still a long way to go but I'm pretty happy with how its looking so far

How are the instructions? I was a bit surprised with the Lancia in that the instructions ask for some parts to be left unpainted like the body and chassis! I ignored it and painted them anyway.

The instructions aren’t too bad, there’s some pages that have the wrong part number, colour wise it’s all over the place, the engines in those trucks are red but calls for them to be grey etc. I’ve ignored them aswell and just done my own thing

Definitely agree, I’ve ordered their bmw m1 so will be interesting to see what that kits like.

Nice! I saw an M1 on the road the other day!
Hopefully I'll be done this week.
