I decided to brush the dust off of my ejection seat. Here is a shot of the seat next to a bottle of primer for scale.

Originally, I had this guy primed and painted the entire thing silver. I was going to use chipping fluid to create a worn appearance. The chipping fluid I had was terrible and I scrapped that idea. I then wrestled with using oils or acrylics. I finally settled on Vallejo Model Color. This thing has way too many details to be sprayed so brush painting for me is a must. I stripped it down to raw resin and re-primed it with Stynylrez gray.

I found some stock images of a similar seat that I will use for reference. They are watermarked as I wasn't about to pay $20 per image just to have a better-looking reference.

I then used a color selector tool to isolate some of the main colors and picked out the best matches for Vallejo Model Color.

I have blocked in the main colors and will begin to pick out the pipes with a silver color. Here I plan to use Vallejo Model Air Silver as it covers exceptionally well straight out of the bottle even with a brush.

**Note the green seat is a bit too intense, so I will tamp that down with weathering effects.

Looks good. I love big scale stuff like this. I would love to build a spitfire cockpit or a Merlin engine in 1/10 scale

Started blocking in some chrome color for the pipes. I also added some different colors for belts. The color is very rough and I will have to clean up the edges.

Yes you did, they aren’t in them; I checked. I think I am going to have to print up some new ones.

The main part which is in the picture is one solid hunk of resin. There are a couple of parts molded separately; overhead handle, a launch column, and some sort of hose connection. The only one of those that I want to use is the one that is missing.

I have taken a little creative freedom and modeled my replacement ejection handles. I am working on adding some texture to the handles to simulate the fabric covering. I will post an update when I figure it out.

I decided to make another one closer to what the picture looks like.

For giggles, I rendered it.

It bothered me that the handles didn't have any "sag" to them and were completely flat. It took me a while to figure out how to make them move in a couple of different dimensions, but I think these look better.

Yes, I have a Peopoly Moai resin printer. I am just working out the slicing and support structure.

I took my reference photo and scaled my design to match. However, I still think it is too big. I am not sure this is due to the perspective of the reference or the actual model itself not quite being the same.

Fixing bar looks the correct size but the loops look a little too big, are you able to reduce them slightly in cad Mathew

I worked on getting some more color onto the seat. I switched from Vallejo to Mr Metal for the brass. I also used a toothpick and some Molotow chrome for some bolt heads. I decided to go with blue for the top parachute cords (I think that’s what those are). It is a bit anachronistic, but I think it pops nicely.

That's excellent Matthew and the tape looks perfect, love the textured bracket.
Molotow pens and paints are brilliant, it can rub off sometimes when handling your model but doesn't smudge across other paint and a quick touch with the pen really looks great. Not tried it through a brush yet though.

Very nice work. I love the ejection handles. I could never have been a jet pilot, pulling on the handle would have been too much of a temptation

The toothpick is my favorite way to apply, but I have brushed. It even thins with MLT if you are brave enough to spray it! I will be clearing the model next to protect the paintwork before weathering. That should lock in the chrome parts.

I got this chrome drip stick rollerball when I got my first pen, I'm on my second pen after stepping on the first

I tried the ball pen on a pad and the chrome looks a different shade, kinda darker. on the label it just says chrome 862.006. It pools very well when using a brush and looks very convincing and the pens are perfect as you say for finishing touches.

I did a quick dry brush with Citadel Necron Compound. I then cleared it with Aquagloss.

Almost home!

I got the panel liner on, taped up the seat release, and glued on the ejection handles. The only thing left is to put a final clear; I plan to use dullcote.
