Tamiya Yamaha YZF-R1

Morning guys.
For my second attempt at a motorcycle I've chosen this.
I've made a start by getting the engine block cleaned up and together along with all the various bits that go with it. I also got the frame, mudguard and main body halves glued together along with all the parts from the chrome sprue. The chrome was actually really nice, unfortunately with this being an older kit (1999) there were a lot of seams to clean up so I opted to strip the chrome and will repaint.

Another cool bike. I'm looking forward to watching it come together.

I got the first paint down yesterday. I've gone for gloss aluminium on the frame as it seems to match the boxart the best (and I'm guessing the real bike frame would be ali).

Nice start Mr B, that was the first (and only) bike kit I finished although working on another at the moment. Hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.

Cheers Digger.
I had a bit of an "Oh S**t" moment this morning when I was working on the rear suspension (the joys of working from home). I couldn't find the suspension spring, not sure if I lost it or it wasn't in the kit. So I made this:
Not perfect by a long shot but should do and will be tucked mostly out of sight.

Beautiful work, I can't believe how quickly you progress with your builds.

Cheers Worden.
To be fair these are relatively simple kits with fewer parts. By comparison when I built the Meng Bradley M2A3 (
https://www.flickr.com/photos/152154040 ... 5109833292), that took over 100 days.
Back ends on the bike. I lost a little bit of the decal on the exhaust when fitting the mounting clamp, not sure yet if I'm going to leave it or attempt a repair. The exhaust is only attached by one screw so I can remove it later if needed.

Had a look at the Bradley, absolutely superb! Think my R1 took me about 6 weeks on and off but the VFR 750R RC30 I am doing at the moment has been on the bench since Christmas (although I have done a couple of cars in the meantime). The trouble with bikes is that I don't know one end from the other and spend hours looking up reference stuff.

Morning guys.
I've been working on the paintwork for the last few days. First up was the body panels, painted, glossed, decalled and glossed again. The kit comes with a decal for the red accent on the front fairing, but I decided to mask and paint it instead.
Then I cleaned up all the remaining parts and got them painted.
So with everything now painted it's just a case of getting it all put together.

Morning guys.
Started putting it together yesterday.
Front end.
Seat and fuel tank.
Then the problems started when I tried to fit the cowl.
I can only assume that the internal headlight piece that connects to the frame isn't correctly located within the cowl. There's nothing else for it, it's going to have to come apart. I've ordered some debonder from Amazon, not sure what effect this will have on the paint so might end up having to strip it all and start again.

Cheers guys.
I managed to get it apart with minimal damage and have stripped the paint off the cowl and light clusters. Just priming now and will get the top coat on later.

Morning guys. :smiling3:
I ended up stripping and repainting the cowling and light cluster. Still not perfect but better than it was.
With that I'm calling it done.
