Post by Tomcat64 »

2022 Large Scale GB Rules and Guidelines - PLEASE READ

Subject Choices:

Any subject, military or civilian, that is represented in a larger than usually modelled scale for the chosen subject matter.

Examples include but are not necessarily limited to:
  • Aircraft larger than 1/48 (e.g. 1/35, 1/32, 1/24)
  • AFVs larger than 1/35 (e.g. 1/16)
  • Cars larger than 1/20 (e.g. 1/12)
  • Motorcycles larger than 1/12 (e.g. 1/9, 1/8, 1/6)
If you have something in mind but are not sure if it's covered then either post in this thread or drop us PM.

Group Build Guidelines...
  1. Any kit manufacturer
  2. Only larger scales for the subject matter
  3. Anyone can join regardless of skill level.
  4. There is no restriction on material or any after-market products.
  5. Scratch building is allowed.
  6. After market decal sets are allowed.
  7. Dioramas are allowed
  8. You can enter as many times as you like.
  9. All kits MUST be in unstarted condition - no exceptions (damaged while in transit sprue parts are allowed).
  10. All entries must have a build thread in this GB forum area for the entry to be valid.
  11. A progressive build thread must be posted - which must include sprue and box shots, regular picture and/or video updates with comments on hints & tips - by sharing your build progress others can learn.
  12. You must provide a minimum of three still photographs (as well as any video) as part of your final reveal.
Have FUN

If you have any questions or need clarification then please either post it in this section or drop us a PM and we will get it sorted.

Duration: 5 months
Start date: 1st September 2022
Finish date: 31st January 2023 at Midnight GMT.
Cheers, Neil

This seemed appropriate to kick off the 'large scale' memes for the build

I know you mentioned aircraft normally bigger than 1/48, but I have both a C-130 and a B1B I was considering , both in 1/48... but they are BIG, BIG, BIG. Would one of them be allowed in the GB?

(If not I have plenty of larger scale stuff, just asking)

Hey Ben, I was thinking about the same sort of situation so I've consulted with the higher powers and you're good to go with either of those options as they'd normally be seen in 1/72 or smaller :thumb2:

Thanks for the consideration and supporting my request for the 1/48 aircraft, but at the last minute my heart fell in love with a 1/32 Revell Arado Arl96B Seaplane. I'll begin its build string shortly. Who know, I may build them too, after this one is done.

Sorry it is a nay
1/12 is a pretty 'normal' scale so need a bit bigger
Would suggest a 1/10, 1/9 or 1/8 scale.
The Norton Manx is a good example at 1/9

Just out of curiosity - would 1/72 count for ships (not boats!) & submarines?

We'll need to check with the oracles but I'm thinking if it's something like a battleship that we'd normally see in 1/350 or 1/700 then 1/72 would certainly count as large scale for the subject.

I think with the range of different subjects available for Maritime that we'll have to review on a case by case basis so if you have a kit or kits in mind please let us know the specifics :th:

Was thinking of both a Flower Class Corvette and a Type VIIC U-Boat, the two great adversaries of the Atlantic, as I missed the maritime build this year.
