Let’s build and paint something cool together. September 1 to December 31
:D :D :D

Apologies a lot of my work on the video so I didn’t get accused of lifting someone’s work from the internet

I introduce this sig early with the hopes of having some more building participation
There is plenty of time to get something organized to build and it is WIDE open as to your subject

This could be a really interactive sig as this is not my forté and would love to see other’s methods

Possibly - I'll have to see what I can find figure-wise as there are none in the stash. :)

Count me in - I have a fairly involved project in mind for this with 4x75mm figures and a lot of scenery if I can figure it all out...

The closing date will be sometime in 2026 right?

I'll have a go, I have some figures to do for a diorama and a group build will hopefully give me the kick I need to get them done.

Oh boy ! this is a tempting one ! I've been wanted for a while now to try my hand at something like that on the fantasy world type... but boy I'm so out of money with my 2 vacations ! One of two done, the next one is next week
I'll think about it and see if I can find one pretty cheap or see with my brother if he can print me something.

Yes this is exactly the purpose. Get some figures into a diorama and it comes alive !

Good to see some participants interested
Been thinking about options to support figures while painting them

Cork collections are good…the cork with the wood base is from tequila I believe
Image

Image

Ca glue a brass rod in and drill a hole in fiber base somewhere hidden
Image

These broken drill handles are handy
If they have a bit of drill left to them they can grab a figure’s base or foot
Image

Plus the drill shank fits into this little figure vise
Image

Or into cardboard holder
Image

Any other ideas ??? :scratch::

If the figure doesn't have a base.
Drilling a hole into the foot and inserting a dress makers pin works too. You can stick it into any bit of scrap foam.It doesn't have to be removed either once the painting is finished.
Cork is so easy to knock over with the full figure, but great for heads.
IMHO :)

If it's a 25/28mm sized figure on a base then I'll just hold the base.

If it's a larger set of components such as a 75mm kit or a 1/35 figure without a base for a dio then I'll normally drill a hole somewhere in a joint (or as Digger says under a foot) and then use a cocktail stick. You can generally trim the point so it'll fit snugly into the drill hole without using glue, but I'll also add a dab of PVA to hold it.

Almost inevitably whatever I use I'll end up with an angle that's just too fiddly to get to and will hold the figure (or part) directly, just being careful to keep it to minimum.

I'll have to pass finally unfortunately, for the moment, as personals problems are getting in the way of a few things at the moment. I'll concentrate on finishing my Gloster Javelin and Camel. I'll may be jump in later on. I'll still will go to my hobby store and look at what they have to offer.

Going to be an easy build I think. After the last two auction purchases I thought I'd better make sure its all there.
Good news is everything is there.
Not so good is far from being unopened in sealed bags the assembly is about 70% complete.

Does this still qualify for inclusion??

Oh yeah, you're all smiles and laughing now but if he wins the damn SIG you will not believe the backlash you Mods will be in for.

It'll make the Battle of Helms Deep look like a punch up in a pub car park.

"Win" you say?

To win there would need to be judging....

So I ask... are you prepared to be judged?

We are a week away from September 1st start

Get your figures ready!
You are welcome to start from a new kit OR paint an already built or partially built figure and document the painting process
Let’s just get some participation and posting here
Image

Mine’s a 3D purchased Sparta figure ….a bit rough around his edges and out of scale
Image

I have started removing print remnants and doing some putty on his muffin top

This video is a bit long, but a great example of diorama and figure work
The painting of flesh/skin is IMHO one of the hardest things to replicate
Please feel free to share interesting painting videos you may have

This should be fun. I've got tons of figures laying around in my pile of shame. I'm going to be giving the "Slap Chop" method a run for its money and see how that speeds up the process.

The Honest Wargamer did a great video on it.

Back home. Typical medics - Monday I get half a dozen stood around the bed shaking their heads talking about erratic fibulations and what sort of major surgery is needed. Tuesday it turns out the whole pack of issues were down to having one of the arteries from the heart being shrunk in dia by 50% - which was fixed by shoving a stent in there and then kept in for obbo's overnight & Weds then sent home.
Actually feeling quite let down after all Mondays build up. :)
But - there was fun to be had! I dozed off during the procedure (took about 30 mins), got woken up by the lady operating the scanner thingy to find the doc who performed the procedure giving me the evil eye before saying in a VERY offended tone of voice "You SNORED throughout the whole procedure". :) Then whilst waiting for a bed to be found and wheeled in (they wouldn't let me walk) I was watching the nurse cleaning up all the protective sheets. She saw me watching and asked whether it bothered me seeing that amount of blood. Her face when I replied " No. Lost more than that in one go before now" was priceless....

Anyways - home now and clearing the bench ready for the Figure build!!!
