F86F-30 Sabre 1/48 Hasegawa - Super Detail Kit

Post by cor »

This kit has resin parts to upgrade it made by Jaguar Models.

It looks like a nice kit that's fairly simple to build. It will be built oob, which however does include cutting lots of bits off and replacing with the included resin bits, like flaps, rudder, entire tail planes, intake, guns, ammo belts etc.

The jig is to give a seamless intake at the front, replacing the cut off bits with a resin duct with no seams.

I like these Hasegawa detail up kits. They are high quality.

The decals got wet somewhere along the way, but seem to be ok.

I'm going to have a go at painting a natural metal finish. Never done that before.

Some pics.

Nice work.

I bet the WW2 Fighter jocks who flew the F86 loved the forward view and the nose mounted guns. No massive engine up front obscuring the view and no need to worry about harmonisation and distance from the target.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

This jet reminds me a bit of the Me262 with the 4 nose mounted 30mm canons and swept back wings, which Im sure would have influenced its design.

Absolutely. Lots of Jerry DNA to be seen in the Sabre. Hardly surprising when you consider how the US Forces scoured Germany for the tech at the end of the war.

Paining the yellow stripes. The decals are not coming off the sheet very well.

Decals not going on the plastic well either
The yellow seems to be covering nicely and with the neat masking it looks good so far.

I've soaked them in hot water for ages. But they aren't coming off the backing paper very well. If a
t all.
The stripes turned out really well though.

Not so happy with the silver. But not too bad.

I'm rushing it a bit. Want to finish soon as I'll be away far a while over Xmas.

It's also a bit of a practice for a 1/32 sabre on the to do list.

I think the whole thing is coming out well. Stripes look great as do the panel lines and maintenance panels.

Thanks Digger.

It looks pretty good for a rough n ready build. Nice looking jet. I've been testing the 1/32 kit with aluminium foil over the superbly detailed panels, and it looks very nice indeed. Cant wait to build that one.

Decals are mostly done. After soaking them they needed to be peeled off the backing paper, they wouldnt slide due to being wet then dried out a while ago. But at least they didnt crumble and the carrier film was very tough and thin. Well done hasegawa.

Having some issues posting photos to imgbb. Thinking of going back to imgur...

What brand of foil do you use, the Coles brand tears really easy.

All done. Not bad, a good practice for the 1/32 one I'll do next year.

Thanks Garion. Scalemates mark it as 1996. The resin super detail parts made it a good kit for 30 years old.

Thanks Stokesy. Not the silver metal I was after, but learned a lot about painting metal finishes. Next time Ill use foil to wrap the 1/32 sabre. Cant beat Aluminium foil to simulate aluminium.
