Devon's Trumpy Challenger 2 Entry OOB

All right guys. I decided to go ahead and join this if you do not mind? I have just ordered a kit off of Ebay. I hope its not total junk LOL. Its the British Challenger 2 MBT tank, Iraq 2003 kit. It didnt cost alot and i noticed noone else was doing this version from Trumpeter. I wanted to get a little more practice before Coen's Kursk GB later this year. All i have to do is wait for the kit to arrive now. Then i can post my Pictures of the sprews. For now ill put up a couple from the ebay ad.

Better not be or the Ebay seller is in trouble. He listed it as 1/35.

Judging by the dimensions on the box it's 1/72, but the kit number on the eBay listing (00323) is for a 1/35 kit. I'd message them and check. Good luck mate, I'm sooo tempted to join in with this one!

Yep the pic there is for a 1/72 kit mate. I don't think Trumpy do a 1/35 Iraq War Chally 2, least not with that box design. The Enhanced Armour one. Nige, Paul and Coen are doing is the 1/35 version. If you get the kit above in the post, the eBay seller is wrong for listing it at 1/35. He may have just put the wrong pic though.

I have messaged the guy but have not heard back. So for now its a waiting game to see what i get or what happens. Yes it does look good for 1/72. If it is though i will have overpaid on it. Thats what mainly concerns me. But once i get the kit i will post some pics and get started.

I'd be looking for some sort of compensation if that's the case Devon.
If he's a stand up guy he'll do the right thing and send some money back to you or send you something else to make up for his shortage.
If not, report him.

still waiting to here back from the seller. Getting a little nervous that i may have hit one of the bad eggs on there. Ill give him the benefit of the doubt with the weekend. But if i dont hear from him monday sometime i will be reporting him to both ebay and paypal.

well he finally contacted me. he says its a 1/35 kit. he had wrong box art shown. kit was shipped today. so once I get it ill get some pics up and get going on it. thanks for letting me know guys. being newer to this I dont know alot about kits.

Ok here is the long awaited sprew shots. Ill be working on it a little bit mabye tomorrow. Not sure about the rest of this week though. I have my kids this upcoming weekend. Taking them up to Appleton WI for the youth state bowling tournament. Will be fun.

Parts are a little flashy. So there will be some clean up work. So will see how it comes along as i put it together as far as fit.

It looks to be a cool build Devon!
Lots of differences from the one that some of us are mashing together. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

I made a discovery today while looking at my instructions today. I had every intention of starting on putting the suspension and wheels together today. But that did not happen. This discovery has been a subject of discussion with the guys who have already built their challengers.

I found something about those holes in the top of the turret that everyone is filling in to look like little pockets to put things. Well in my kit there are 3 tool boxes that surround the back of the turret. The two on the sides look like they would actually be hinged in real life to swing out away from the turret to have access beheind them. These too boxes do not fit tight up against the sides of the turret. There are actually holes in the top where they rest up against the turret. Here are a couple pictures to show all of this.

I think the side ones swing out on those hinges, although I've never actually seen them used! I believe they can be accessed from inside the turret as well. But don't quote me on that!

Sorry im so slow guys. Work during the week and i had my kids this last weekend. I feel like im too slow for this. Ill do my best. But i wont rush it. The rear of the lower hull is very fiddly. Took me a few hours to get what ive got done. Got the suspension and wheels together as well.

Well got to sit down and get some work done this weekend finally. This Kit from Trumpeter is something to be desired LOL. Lots of flash and fit issues all over the place. Did the best i could with the rear of the turret. But from the picture Coen posted it doesnt look like things line up perfectly in real life anyway. Putting tracks on after painting will be a trick with the side skirts on. I think ive got a way to do it though. So i should be ok. Here is a couple pics of it as she sits. Only had one track on just to see what it looked like. So in one picture it kind of looks like a Challenger hover craft with that side skirt on it LOL.

That looks cool Devon. I love the look of those drapes under the sand skirts. They look awesome. Those external fuel tanks are sharp too.

Well i finally got some primer on the challenger today. Now ill let her sit for a little while and then throw some paint at her. wish me luck! this is my very first attempt with an airbrush. total newbie here LOL.

Looks like the turret on the Trumpy kit takes a whole lot more work than the Tamiya one, but you certainly wrestled it into submission!!

Best of luck with the airbrushing; slow and steady is what I always tell myself, but I'm sure you'll nail it!

Yes the turret is ALOT of work. Had to do some customization of it to get things to fit properly. There was alot of little tiny pieces in general with this kit. Carpet monster ate a couple of them. I live in an apartment so i cant just got put different flooring in LOL. I may look into one of those plastic mats for under your computer chair though. Will help a little bit with finding pieces.

You could use a drape Devon. Take an old towel or pillow case (something like that) and screw it buy the edge length wise to the underside of your bench. Then you can just spread it across your lap to catch anything that falls.
