So as I've put the mustang away for a while, this gives me the chance to join Coens Kursk GB.

Can't start till midnight though

Been wanting to build this since the day I bought so real happy with that. Also got a pair of nice aires figures for it so a dio may be in the cards, I may add a Russian field car by tamiya and a muddy grassy field dio base. I've also got the akan paint set for this aircraft so hopefully it'll look spot on

Not got into Soviet planes yet, but this and those Eduard Lavs look good. Plenty of scope for new paint too.

You know Will , I like Tamiya and Eduard kits , do not have any Russian also , but this IL 2 from Tamiya is one of my future buys , also I would like to do a limited edition of a Lav from Eduard , it is the one with the snake head , should be nice ,

But and about this build from Paul , this is a one to follow , to see the Master doing his Magic

I started this at midnight last night, been wanting to build this for some time now

Worked for about an hour on it last night, then from midday today almost straight through to now including a couple hours on Skype with coen and a few hours on a google + hangout i hosted and this is where its at now

Its a beauty of a kit, fit is almost perfect and the level of detail is really nice too.

I got all the cockpit parts built in to subsections and ready for paint. I've got the akan paint set for the IL2 and this includes the A14 steel grey interior colour.

And base painted, lovely colour and as usual thinned with Ultimate thinner the akan pants performed flawlessly.

Test fitting the fuselage seams

Picking out the cockpit detail with various colours of vallejo model colour and life colour, this was then cleared, the instrument decals applied and an oil wash applied

I then started building the lower fuselage and wing/roots again fit is brilliant.

And with the fuselage glued together the wings were glued in place too, excellent fit with barely any filler needed i think. Ill leave this to fully set over night and see whats what in the morning.

Forgot to get pics of the finished cockpit so tried to get some shots through the fuselage. Also shown are the decal seat belts which once matt cleared should look ok

Looks superb mate. I've been champing at the bit to start mine, so this might give me the nudge I need. Are you building OOB?

The build is going nicely Paul , the cockpit is looking good . Those new paints seems very good .

I wonder if that in the middle will be a gas tank or something ...now that should be nice if they and in the reall plane get hit there ...

About the kit reallly seems a pleasure to build , a really nice one to make a relax build ...

Yeah totally oob, kit goes together like a dream, it'll just need a touch of filler On the leading edges and maybe on the fusalage seems in places

Yeah it's was a quick simple build I needed to get back on track. The kit is superb well worth buying and the akan paints I can't recommend highly enough.

So the build is flying along (sorry), the fit is superb, I've just needed a smudge of mr suffacer here and there the seems as almost flawless. Just one area needed some true filler and that wa son one of the horizontal stabilisers and it was a fault of my own that caused it being needed.

Its now ready for primer and should have paint soon

So bit of a leap forward with this, it was primed in ak grey primer, then pre shaded as usual.

The lower fuselage was painted in AMT 7 blue

I then set to work doing the camo work, using Akan Amt 1 light brown, Amt 4 Green and ANT 12 Dark grey. All thinned approx 10% with Ultimate thinner, the paints went down perfectly.

I made a start on the resin figures the other day too, assembly was fairly easy, they were primed in alclad black micro primer and i started painting the white eye outline last night in a hangout then got bored and built a 1/72 Jagdtiger instead lol

Got the figures painted up tonight, First time painting figures in 11 years and i sucked back then too lol. Happy with how the leather jacket turned out on the officer, the eyes went a bit pear shaped on the pilot, but never mind

Those figures look top drawer! The only change I'd make would be to matte the pants/trousers down, unless they are meant to have a shiny finish?

The one wearing the flying helmet and goggles looks like Michael Palin!

Back working on the IL2 tonight, panel fading, bleaching and post shading.

Cant help think the green is overdone, will sleep on it (not the plane) and see how i feel tomorrow

Great job Paul!! the day i finished this kit i promptly ordered another one. Its one of my favorite kits.. It goes together as good as any kit i have ever built.. You are certainly doing it justice. The great thing about Russian WW2 planes is the paintwork on the real ones seemed like they were different on every one.. They were not taken very good care of so you really cant go wrong with your colors.. I think it looks awesome. Impatiently waiting more updates... lol

at first sight no need of washes but after a better look maybe a little one beneath. On the top no need everything looks sufficientely highlightened

So I toned down the post shading on the light brown, I thought it was too dark and a few comments helped me decide to tone it down.

Decals have been applied (all 10 of them) and clear coated over ready for a wash.

I built some wooden crates to go on the dio, they're 1/35 but scale doesn't really matter with them. 12 laser cut parts per crate and glued together with pva glue.

The figures were also gloss coated and a wash of brown oil given all over, including the skin tones, this was allowed to dry, then a black oil wash given to the clothing, once dry it was then flat coated and the figures are done

You mention that you use Tamiya Smoke as Post Shading , you use it diluted right ? or just out of the bottle ?

About the crates , they are very nice and will give a nice adition to the Dio , YOur figures are just great , all the leathers are really life like !

I agree that the one doing the manouvers with the hands really look like the Michael Palin

Jaysus Paul! Those figures are stunning bud.
Better than anything that I've ever done and I do those things all the time and at 35th.
The Storm bird certainly darkened up under the gloss. Looks like a totally different plane now. Haha.

I picked these up today

Ill fill the back of the truck with some fuel barrels and crates, and I've ordered these guys I'm going to adapt and have unloading stuff off the truck

So i built the truck in a couple of hours, nothing too taxing and fitted together perfectly.

Chassis complete, I've left the chassis, cab, wheels and flatbed as separate units to allow easier painting and weathering.

So the il2 was cleared after decals then a dark dirt was applied, and after drying wiped off

It's brought out the panel lines a treat

Started work on the cargo trucks cargo too, using three different size rb crates, each crate is made from approx 12 parts all cut from a laser cut fret. I then stained them using enamel burnt sienna for two and raw umber oil wash for the others. The barrels and jerry cans are almost ready for paint too
