Airfix 1:48 Supacat Coyote

Post by Deacon »

I would like to join in this SiG with the Airfix 1:48 Coyote.

I was planning on building a Russain truck, but realised I had this in the loft along with the etch set.

Image

I have read however, that the tread pattern on the wheels is all wrong, but gaso-line do a resin replacement set
which I will try to get hold of.

Cheers

Excellent choice, was hoping some one would do one of these. Good luck with the build and will be watching the progress.

I've bought some resin for this kit from Gaso-Line which my local store, Parabellum stocks (one of only two in the UK).

The first is replacement tyres...

Image

unfortunately I've got o wait for teh Coyote set (with 6 tyres) this one is from the Jackal set (4 tyres, £5.00)

Next is another Gaso-Line set which replaces the grenade launcher and MG and also gives you jerry cans sat in the
brackets (sorry about the picture quality).

And I have actually started work on this

Sorry mate, my mojo is 'butterflying' at present. Settling on one thing for a bit and then moving on to something else and then onto
something else, just not able to focus.

People who know me on other forums will tell you that 99.9% of my builds are OOB.

One of the reasons I have wanted to move over to armour (1:48/35) building is that, as Coen has said, if you make a mistake,
throw a tarp or stowage on top and it will be hidden, so there is, for me trying to attempt new stuff, an escape route. I also find armour building (1:72/76) relaxing.

So, there is a part in the Coyote/Jackal that screams to be enhanced and that is the webbing 'holders' on the side of the vehicle and I thought I'd have a go.

Here the webbing has been shaved/scraped off. It was much cleaner than this when I finished the process.

Image

Then, pinching a back pack from the prone figure in the Airfix set and using some lead alloy off a wine bottle, I created this.

Image

Image

Very basic I know, but I'm just happy I had a go. :)

Cheers

Thanks mate.

And now another demonstration of lousy photography. A comparison of the PE mesh on the 'footstep' and the kit version.

Image

on this shot I'd like to offer a suggestion.

Image

It's about steps 21 to 23. I found it best to add part 24A in step 21 then part 13C (tailgate) step 23. This will then give you a very positive placement for part 11C in step 22. Finally, the resulting fit of parts 20C and 5C is next to perfect.

I really struggled dry fitting and finding the exact fit for these parts, until I carried out the above sequence.

Have you heard of "The Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company"? Well they are based here in Birmingham and they produce 1:48 resin
vehicles and so on.

I picked up from them at Telford (but I see the owner nearly every Friday) this...

Image

This pack (which includes the two backpacks of hung on the Coyote) is their 1/48th scale Landrover WMIK baggage and stowage set

Comprising of:-Covered spare wheel, 2 Covered stowage. Bonnet Stowage basket with 2 different stowage options and 2 each of 7 types of assorted Bergen's, backpacks, day-sacks and rolled matts 20 pieces in total, for £8.00 excluding postage.

Cheers

Okay, well another update and these shots show the resin and brass 'holder' added.
